The Motor Trend magazine has just chosen the vehicle to which they would be rewarding their Sport/Utility Of The Year award for 2007. And the magazine’s editors have already announced which vehicle it is going to be. To them, the Mercedes Benz GL450 was the top vehicle and the best one to take home such an award.

Out of 22 vehicles that are available in the market, the Mercedes Benz GL450 came out to be the best choice. However, choosing the best one was not an easy task in fact, Angus MacKenzie, the magazine’s editor in chief, did say that the number of vehicles this year was the greatest that they had ever compared. And it also looked like there was not much difference between them. He does even continue by saying, “The GL may be a surprise winner for many people. The first full size sport/utility from Mercedes is not cheap, but it has astonishing technology. It offers a seven speed automatic transmission and a V8 engine with 335 horsepower, and it will be available in a version that runs on the new low sulfur diesel fuel for greater gas mileage. Comfortable, third row seating has become one of the most important measures for sport/utilities, and the GL’s is the best.”

Sure, this vehicle may be Motor Trend’s top choice. And the vehicle may still be quite a huge investment that a person can ever spend on. However, if you do own this one, you surely would be much into the features, performance, and power that it can provide. And the Mercedes Benz GL450 auto maker also did make sure that the vehicle will still do well even if you do add in your own personal choice of Superchips programmer or NGK wires to it.

As per the Mercedes Benz GL450’s overall appeal, MacKenzie shares, “The GL extends the reach of Mercedes Benz in the sport utility segment, and is certainly the best sport/utility they’ve made. In every facet, from performance to the interior, the vehicle is a winner.”

To get to the best vehicle, the whole Motor Trend editorial staff had gone through various criteria. The list does include off-road performance, testing on the streets and tracks, looking at the vehicles’ engineering, design, and safety, and trying out the vehicles themselves.

Choosing spark plugs

Posted by: Auto Technician | Comments (0)

We’ve all probably heard of spark plugs, but not all of us actually know what they do or understand the importance of them. In its basic sense, a spark plug is an electrical device that fits in the cylinder head of some internal combustion engines. The spark plug ignites compressed fuels by means of an electric spark. This igniting of fuel is one of the most important stages of an internal combustion engine’s running. Without it, your car simply would not move!

With the ignition stage being so important, it’s vital that your engines spark plugs are not too old and the spark plug gap is set correctly. The spark plug gap is the distance between the ground electrode and the center electrode. If the spark plug gap is set too small, you could end up with too weak a spark so the fuel does not ignite. If the spark plug gap is too big, you could end up with the plug not firing or missing at high speeds so again the fuel will not ignite.

Clearly, a strong spark is very important. With this in mind, NGK spark plugs supplied by CarSparkPlugs may be a perfect solution. NGK spark plugs made from iridium offer increased fuel efficiency, high acceleration and potentially longer life. Older spark plugs made from inferior materials tend to erode, the gap will widen and the spark may not ignite the fuel. If this can be avoided with a relatively small investment, then NGK iridium IX spark plugs are a great choice when deciding to replace your spark plugs.
